Herb gardening is a popular and rewarding hobby for many people. Herbs can be grown for culinary, medicinal, or ornamental purposes and can be started from seed or planted as established plants. Some common herbs that people grow when first starting an herb garden include basil, oregano, rosemary, chives, mint, sage, and dill. These herbs can grow for at least one season and some will grow year after year. Some popular perennial herbs for beginners include Greek oregano, thyme, sage, winter savory, chives, and mint. These herbs can be grown in a garden or in containers and can even be mixed together in the same container, except for certain species.
